The Wolf And The Goat
One day a wolf saw a goat on a high rock. The goat was eating the grass there.
My friend,” said the wolf, “the grass is short and dry up there the grass is long and tender”
“Thank you, my friend,” said the goat. “ But I shall stay here. I would rather eat dry grass than be eaten by a wolf.2.THE Monkey And The Cat
One day, a cat and a monkey sat watching some chestnuts roasting in the fire.
“I wish we had some of those chestnuts,” said the monkey. “Let us try to get them. You try, pussy. Your paws are so much like hands, and I am sure you can get some.”
This pleased the Cat, so she put her paw into the fire. She got one chestnut out, but the hot coals burned her paw.
“That’s fine!” said the monkey. “I knew you could do it. Do you think you could get another?”
Poor puss! She tried again and again. Soon the nuts were all out, but her paw was badly burned.
When she turned to eat the nuts, she saw the sly Monkey cracking the last shell.3.The Fox And The Grapes
One very hot day a thirsty Fox spied some ripe grapes in the garden.
He said to himself, “How lucky I am!These ripe grapes will be much nicer, on such a hot day as this, than even the coolest water.”
Then he crept into the garden, and jumped up at the grapes, but just missed them.
Then he tried again and again, every time farther from the grapes than at first.
When he found that he could not get at the grapes, he said, “I won’t try any more; very likely the grapes are sour.
