一週實用例句介紹

第一句：
　Angela has given birth to five children in all.
　（安其拉一共生了五個孩子。）

關鍵字：
　1. give birth to　生孩子
　She gave birth to a fine healthy baby.
　（她生了個漂亮健康的嬰兒。）
　2. in all　總共（與數字並用）
= in total

第二句：
　Due to the rise in interest rates, fewer people are investing in the stock market.
　（由於利率上升，投資股市的人數減少了。）

關鍵字：
　1. interest rate　利率
　2. invest　投資（+in）
　He invested all his money in real estate.
　（他把錢全部投資房地產。）
　3. stock market　股票市場

第三句：
　He is associated with several gangsters.
　（他和好幾個黑幫份子有往來。）

關鍵字：
　1. be associated with　和...有關連；把...聯想在一起
　They associate turkey with Thanksgiving.
　（他們把火雞和感恩節聯繫在一起。）
（這裡再補充一個與"associate"相關的字彙）
associate professor　副教授
　2. gangster　(歹徒等的)一幫,一群
gang　幫派

第四句：
　The bank's safe is made of solid steel.
　（該銀行的保險櫃是用純剛打造的。）

關鍵字：
　1. safe　保險櫃
　2. be made of　由...製成（原料性質不便）
be made from　由...製成（原料性質改變）
　This wine is made from strawberries.　
　（這九是用草莓釀的。）
　3. solid　純的
　This spoon is solid silver.
　（這把湯匙是純銀的。）
　4. steel　鋼,鋼鐵

第五句：
　Some diabeetics have to take medication every day.
　（有些糖尿病患者必須每天服藥。）

關鍵字：
　1. diabetic　糖尿病患者
diabetes　糖尿病　　　　　
　2. take medication　吃藥
（注意：表「吃藥」時，不可說成"eat medication"或"eat medicine"）

第六句：
　The typhoon's strength is diminishing.　　
　（颱風的威力正在減弱中。）

關鍵字：
　1. strength　力量；強度
　注意：strength與power的差異在於，strength是指「肉體有形」的力
氣,power 則比較「無形抽象」。比如說：「肌肉的耐力」"muscle strength"
「神奇的能力」"super power"
　Why you like her so much? Does she have some kind ofmagic power?
　（你為什麼這麼喜歡她阿?她是有什麼魔力嗎?）
　2. diminish　減少；縮小

第七句：
　Tony used to have a midnight snack before going to bed.
　（東泥以前常常在睡覺前吃宵夜。）

關鍵字：
　1. be used to + V　過去曾經
（欲表示以前...如何...曾做過什麼是，就可用此句型）
　I used to have trouble making friends, but now I'm more confident.
　（我以前很難交到朋友，但現在我比較有信心了。）
　2. midnight snack　宵夜
snack　點心
（需小心區別與另一字"snake"「蛇」的發音）　　　　　　
　 [發音]"snack"與"snake"
